Big, Important Things

Okay folks, your hero is off to do BITs in Budapest until Wednesday afternoon, so there won't be much to see here (in great contrast to usually). In my absence, there may be things to read and comment on here, here and there. If you want to see what I'm up to... maybe some background usefulnesses will be available at the youth sections of here and here. But I don't know that for sure. This is an interesting publication.

Budapest looks like this:

Re link in yr blog on Zimbabwe -
"Padare was founded by five men in 1995 and now has 1500 members spread across 17 chapters nationwide."
- to me, this seems a slow spread of awareness.

Yes, Budapest is gorgeous. A good place to be in love.

You may be right, scaffolder, but I would say also that you shouldnát confuse awareness with membership. Think of all the organisations whose messages you have heard and are not a memberof, even if youáve not then taken a lot of notice. (If theyéd been saying something as noticable as challenging the zimbabwean conception of masculinity, maybe you would have...) Itás also not the easiest country in the world to work in on matters of gender (and sexuality).

You also have to remember that NGOs, particularly in countries or around issues where government support or priorities are not forthcoming, and the issue more or less socially controversial. Itás also possible to have a lot of impact with not a lot of womanpower ü see anna politkovskaya, in a previous blog of mine or better on google, or search even better for zackie achmat (i think hisname is) ü an amazing individual, of course working with support but remarkable on his own. a hundredth of that commitment in 15öö people doing oureach work and changing attitudes, around something more ambiguous than access to antiretrovirals...

on another note, by this time tomorrow iáll have had enough unfpa top last me til next year. itás going well though. iám getting ideas for masterás course projects... but iáll pretend i didnát just say that. ate calf calf core last night.

Oh I LOVE Budapest. My dad worked there for a couple of years. It's one of my favourite cities: I can't remember it's name but there's a big famous cafe in the centre of Pest: it's very wanky and swanky, but I close my eyes to that when there's chocolate involved! Have the hot chocolate: I think it gave my mouth an orgasm!!!
Unfortunately Hungary has its social downsides: I have 2 Hungarian female friends, both no longer living in Hungary - one left to escape a drunk and abusive father, and the other is a lesbian who escaped to the more liberal and tolerant Tel-Aviv...

Have a good time. That picture is very nice. Looks good for a CD cover. The Middle Class Bastards may get back to you on that one.
