a flock of tiny white butterflies
it's gorgeously crisp out.
i am, indeed, back in bratston after an amazing week back home and away. i will write more about that when less exhausted. feel like i've been away a month - i'm asking people for things with end of november deadlines. speaking of dead, isn't it entirely inappropriate for pw botha to get a state funeral? de clerk i could understand, but this seems so wrong that there isn't even an analogy i can think of that isn't entirely trivial-offensive.
so in order to not be trivial or offensive, and to see how many of you actually read this, i want to run a competition open until friday noon, as many songs as possible involving funerals, racism or the state in the title. answers on the comments board please.

Life's just one long party for you isn't it Chris?
Anti-Flag's State Funeral is as close as I can get, courtesy of Limewire.
Hmm...
Arcade Fire have an album called 'Funeral' and there's a song by Drudstore called 'The Funeral (but most of all)'. Also The Eels did 'Going to your Funeral' (parts 1 and 2). That's all I've got.
the state that I am in - belle and sebastian
dress sexy at my funeral - smog
Ladies for compasionate lynching - chumbawamba (tenuos I know but racism is a hard one, I can think of lots with racism/rascist in the lyrics [e.g. Hello Kitten by Hefner])
Little Baby Swastika - Skunk Anancy (also tenous)
My Nazi Girlfriend - Iggy Pop (ditto tenous)
Grandbag's Funeral - The Happy Mondays
Jim, I wore a tie today - version I know done by The Highwaymen is about a funeral
Arcade Fire album jen has already mentioned (she wants me to further mention that she meant drugstore not drudstore)
Funeral -the mekons (lyrics follow)
Your dead are buried, ours are reborn
You clean up the ashes while we light the fire
They're queuing up to dance on socialism's grave
This funeral is for the wrong corpse
This is my testimony, a dinosaur's confession
But how can something really be dead when it hasn't even happened?
Democracy is an alibi
The peaceful country is an ordered cemetery
What you call a sane man is now an impotent man
Smart bombs replace the dumb bombs
We can aim right into someone's kitchen
Hard rice sprays from the cooking pot
Into the eyes delicate jelly
When the natural order gets unruly
The cost of living starts going up
That makes a man's live worth so much less?
In the boring land of the snoring men
Where happiness is the taste of a sausage
And revolution is a powder for your wash
Glory in the greatest of a toilet soap
And a man falls in love with a motor
He trades his tractor for a microwave
Now we're all ex-tractor fans
Moving over to the golden state
Digging up bones tired old tails
They undertake to drive in nails
"Coo what a scorcher!"
"Are you ashamed of your bum?"
The sun is shining all around
But it's raining in our hearts
Hang on in there baby
Hang on in there child
We're gonna work it out sometime
Down in the dark we've been word-mining
We're caught in the light of the rising moon
Hairs on our palms and our vocabulary
We're gonna work it out soon)
Interlectualize My Blackness - Skunk Anansie
thank you all for your inputs, a compilation cd will be in the offing ... all further submissions considered.
I already suggested
Your Racist Friend - They Might Be Giants
in an email to you (as you know) but I felt like offering it out into the ether(net)

There's a band called Funeral For A Friend
I have never heard them but the phrase funeral for a friend kept going round my head everytime I looked at your blog but I wasn't sure who the song was by and if it was any good. So finally I typed into into google aqnd the nagging sensation was finally appeased.
The band may be crap, they don't look good, but they kindof meet your criteria (in that tenous kind of way that many of the other songs I've suggested have.)
